2018 was marked globally as the Nelson Mandela Centenary, as it would have been the year he turned 100. Giants of Africa celebrated this milestone with a series of events celebrating his life and legacy.

At our monumental tribute event, panel discussions, recognition presentations, performances and remarks honoured his profound impact on millions of people.

To connect with youth facing barriers in their community, we hosted a mentorship event with Hon. Minister Ahmed Hussen and 800 youth at The Symes, as well as a GOA mini basketball camp for 100 youth at MLSE Launchpad.

La Loche welcomed the GOA team with open arms. Dene High School was filled with smiles as we went through fundamentals, footwork, goal setting and games.
At the end of the second day, closing ceremonies were extra special as the community thanked us with smoke tan moose hide mitts and Dene Strong caribbeaners, to remind us that we’ll always be connected. In Dene, they don’t have a word for goodbye so from the GOA team to La Loche, see you soon!
