“The Giant of Africa is Nelson Mandela. He was the father of Africa. He was our hope, and he brought us together. He rose above all odds in life to become the most positive person and the most positive movement I think in the world.

He taught us to rise above hate, despair, and spite, and he made us understand love and hope. And it’s the same way in sports in my opinion."

Nelson Mandela was a big influence on Masai’s life, and when he passed away on December 5, 2013 it was important for Giants of Africa to create an initiative to keep his legacy alive.

Since 2014, we have been celebrating Mandela’s lasting impact on society with a yearly fundraising event while introducing  youth-focused events and a diversity, equity and inclusion forum in recent years.
