On May 6, 2026, Toronto’s African diaspora gathered at Steam Whistle Brewery Event Space for AfriCAN: Advancing Africa Together, presented by TD with supporting partner Wellington Advocacy. The evening brought together working professionals to celebrate African excellence, share knowledge, and build meaningful connections through culture, conversation, and community.

Beyond celebration, AfriCAN was fundamentally about creating pathways to empower African youth across the continent and diaspora. The highlight of the evening was an intimate fireside chat featuring Masai Ujiri, actor-investor-philanthropist Boris Kodjoe, and comedian-entertainer-philanthropist Michael Blackson, whose stories demonstrated how staying connected to our roots enables us to create opportunity for the next generation. The celebration continued with live comedy from rising Canadian comedian Hassan Phills, a vibrant cultural marketplace showcasing African design, and curated cuisine from acclaimed chefs Rachel Adjei, Victor Ugwueke, and Bashir Munye—creating an unforgettable experience that united Toronto’s African community in purpose and pride.
