On June 19th, we hosted AfriCAN 2024 presented by TD, bringing together over 400 professionals from the African diaspora and beyond for an evening of networking, culture, and entertainment. The event featured special guest Didier Drogba, football legend and philanthropist, known for his illustrious career with Chelsea in the Premier League and as a player for the Ivory Coast national team. Drogba shared his inspiring journey from growing up in the Ivory Coast to achieving global success.

Jamad Fiin, athlete, content creator, and founder of Jamad Basketball Camps, also joined the stage in a conversation with event host, Emcee Ebone, where she spoke about her experience growing up as the only girl playing basketball in her community.

Entertainment was provided by Hangelle, and guests enjoyed engaging interactions with social media correspondent Mr. Activated.

Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba is arguably the most successful African footballer of all time and one of the greats of the Premier League era. Renowned for his shooting power and heading prowess, his career began in France but entered its most exciting phase after he joined Chelsea in 2004.

Twice named African Footballer of the Year, Didier won 104 caps for the Ivory Coast, amassing a record 65 goals making him the country’s all-time top scorer. He also led the nation in three World Cups after their first ever qualification in 2006. Following this qualification, Didier asked that the country bring an end to their civil war.

Didier Drogba is a UN goodwill ambassador and his Didier Drogba Foundation established in 2007 works to improve health and education in the Ivory Coast.

Basketball star and social media sensation Jamad Fiin quickly became an inspiration for young Muslim girls across the globe. Videos of Fiin hooping on street courts in her hijab circulated the internet rapidly, receiving millions of views. Following her rise, Fiin started Jamad Basketball Camps to empower young girls to stay true to themselves. A daughter of immigrants, Fiin grew up in Boston and found basketball at a young age. She continued to push herself every day on her own without the guidance of a mentor to help her navigate the challenges of being a Muslim girl in her sport.
