GIANTS OF AFRICA OPENS THREE NEW COURTS IN RWANDA
The latest court Openings Bring the Foundation’s Built Within Initiative
to Every Province in Rwanda

KIGALI, Rwanda – October 20, 2026 –  Giants of Africa, co-founded by Team President of the Dallas Mavericks, Masai Ujiri, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, will officially open three new basketball courts in Rwanda this week as part of Built Within, its commitment to build 100 courts across Africa. With these openings, Giants of Africa will have courts in every one of the country’s provinces. The courts open on consecutive days: in Nyagatare (Eastern Province) on Tuesday, October 20; in Musanze (Northern Province) on Wednesday, October 21; and in Nyanza (Southern Province) on Thursday, October 22.

Together, the three courts will serve more than 9,500 young people, students and community members. Each one gives its community a safe, high-quality space to play, learn and grow.

The week begins on Tuesday at UR Nyagatare in Nyagatare. Located near the University of Rwanda’s Nyagatare campus, the court will serve more than 600 community members, from university students to young people in the surrounding area. On Wednesday, the openings move north to GS Marie Reine Rwaza in Musanze, a Catholic boarding school that is home to 900 young men and women. There, the new court will give students a place to train, compete and build friendships beyond the classroom. The week concludes on Thursday at Igihozo St Peter in Nyanza, where the new court will welcome 8,000 people from Igihozo St Peter and neighbouring schools. The school’s motto, “To Know, To Love, To Serve,” reflects the spirit of service and community at the heart of Built Within.

These openings join Giants of Africa’s earlier Built Within courts in Rusizi, in the Western Province, and in the City of Kigali. The Nyanza court will also be the organization’s 14th in Rwanda, deepening its long-standing commitment to the country’s youth and its growing basketball community.

Giants of Africa thanks the Ministry of Sports and the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) for their partnership, which has been essential in bringing these courts to life across Rwanda.

Beyond Rwanda, the openings move Giants of Africa closer to its goal of building 100 courts across the continent. Including these three, the organization has now built 53 courts across 16 African nations, creating safe, accessible spaces where young people can play, learn and develop the confidence to lead.
