The Giants of Africa (GOA) Women’s Empowerment Initiative 2030 is our bold commitment to ensuring that gender equality is at the heart of every program we implement. This initiative represents a comprehensive, long-term strategy that empowers girls and women across Africa by integrating gender-focused actions into every facet of our work. From leadership development to community infrastructure, this initiative spans all GOA programs to create lasting impact.
Our vision is to build a future where young women not only participate but lead in their communities, supported by safe spaces, mentorship, and opportunities for growth. By 2030, the Women’s Empowerment Initiative will impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of girls across the continent, breaking down barriers and fostering a new generation of empowered female leaders.
The initiative focuses on five program areas, each designed to promote gender equality and sustain progress toward a more equitable future for all.
- GOA Festival: A Pan-African activation of all GOA programs, with women’s empowerment integrated throughout.
- Infrastructure & Local Ownership: Through our Built Within Initiative, we will construct 100 community hubs, with basketball courts as the foundation, across Africa by 2030.
- Youth Leadership & Alumni Engagement: By 2030, our youth leadership programs aim to equip girls with the skills, mentorship, and confidence to lead in their communities. With 140,000 youth already impacted, GOA is uniquely positioned to empower women in our network as advocates for change, while also fostering male allies for gender equality.
- Conflict Regions & Peacebuilding: In conflict-affected areas, GOA will implement sports-based leadership programs that provide safe spaces for girls and women to heal and grow as leaders in their communities.
- Data-Driven Storytelling: Gathering insights and amplifying the stories of women and girls across Africa, highlighting their resilience and leadership to a global audience.
