On Thursday, January 12th, twelve members from the small Saskatchewan community of La Loche landed in Toronto. For three days, the group will experience Toronto with Raptors GM Masai Ujiri as their guide.
Less than a year ago, tragedy struck Dene High School, leaving the community shaken and devastated. The impact it had on Marci Ien led her to contact the La Loche high school. The end result: a cross-country excursion with Masai Ujiri, where they visited the high school late last year.
Upon their arrival in Toronto, we learned that the youth had never left the town of La Loche – including their school principal Greg Hatch and admin assistant Martha Morin. The group were invited to CTV’s The Social where they had a special segment on La Loche. The students also received $150 from RBC to do something good for their communities.
