HONOURING NELSON MANDELA’S CENTENARY
Toronto, ON (September 18, 2018) – Giants of Africa and Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri announced Tuesday a celebration of the centenary of Nelson Mandela with a series of Toronto-based events on Dec. 4th and 5th. The tribute marks the fifth consecutive year that Giants of Africa, the not-for-profit founded by Ujiri, will pay homage to the late South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
CELEBRATING NELSON MANDELA: THE GIANT OF AFRICA
On December 5th, 2014, Giants of Africa in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted a special tribute event in Toronto, Canada. The event celebrated Nelson Mandela’s life, legacy, and ability to inspire positive change on the one-year anniversary of his passing. Special guests in attendance included: Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Dikembe Mutombo, Mpule Kwelagobe, Tracy McGrady, Mark Tatum and many more.
On October 28th 2015, Masai Ujiri and Giants of Africa held an intimate event for our prospective partners at Sher Club at the Air Canada Centre. The event welcomed friends of MLSE and GOA with Masai introducing the work of Giants of Africa, our many successes, and the opportunity for expansion to new African countries. Insight was provided to our guests with updates including where GOA is now and what we aim to achieve in the coming year.
MADIBA: TRIBUTE EVENT
On June 19 2014, Giants of Africa & the Nelson Mandela Foundation presented Madiba Tribute Event: An evening that honoured Nelson Mandela hosted by Masai Ujiri, Wolf Blitzer and Carol Tshabalala. This intimate evening invited special guests to celebrate Mandela’s life, legacy and inspiration.
DREAM BIG T.O. 2013
On November 17, 2013, Giants of Africa celebrated our ten-year anniversary. Ujiri, along with family, friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate this special milestone with guests ranging from his own youth coach Oliver Johnson to NBA Deputy Commissioner and CEO, Adam Silver.
